On March 5, an exceptional event took place in the UK that highlighted the dedication and success of broiler growers across the country. The inaugural 450 Club event, hosted by Aviagen, celebrated those who achieved an extraordinary European Production Efficiency Factor (EPEF) of 450 or higher. This milestone recognizes the top 1% of UK broiler production and emphasizes the collaborative efforts of growers, which combines genetic excellence and expert flock management.
The Rise of the 450 Club
Since its inception in 2009, membership for the Ross EPEF Club has exploded from just three members to over 824 today. This growth reflects the increasing standards and performance benchmarks set within the broiler industry. In particular, participants noted the importance of sharing knowledge and building connections to further develop their businesses. Over 3,000 awards have been presented, showcasing a significant commitment to quality and efficiency in poultry production.
A Celebration of Achievement
The highlight of the evening was the award presentation, where winners were celebrated for their accomplishments. Sean Harrison, Broiler Technical Manager at Aviagen, led the ceremony, presenting certificates and promotional items to the recipients. Among these was a standout producer who achieved the highest EPEF of the year at an impressive 498. Celebrant Robert Francis shared his enthusiasm, stating, "This experience really highlighted where all the hard work goes and the effort Aviagen puts into supplying us with the best stock." This sentiment of camaraderie and appreciation among peers reflects the challenges faced and overcome in the industry.

Attendees also benefited from insights into Aviagen’s breeding program. Brendan Duggan, the European Director for R & D, discussed how a focus on health, welfare, and sustainability is changing the landscape of poultry production for the better.
