A New Era in Broiler Production Excellence
The inaugural UK 450 Club event marking the exceptional talents within the UK's broiler production took place on March 5, celebrating growers who achieved an impressive European Production Efficiency Factor (EPEF) of 450 or higher. Organized by Aviagen®, this event is designed to foster networking, knowledge exchange, and showcase industry excellence.
Networking Among The Elite
Gathering the top 1% of UK broiler growers, over 60 attendees—including winners from the newly formed 450 Club—had the chance to connect and share insights. Stuart Thomson, Regional Technical Manager Northern Europe, highlighted the remarkable journey of the club from its foundation in 2009 to now boasting 824 members. “As our standards elevate, so do our entry levels,” he noted, underscoring the impressive growth and achievements of participants.
Recognizing Outstanding Achievements
The evening culminated in an awards ceremony where 44 farmers collectively took home 63 awards. Among them, the standout achievement was a remarkable EPEF of 498, showcasing the pinnacle of success in broiler farming. Devon Munnik, a 450 Club winner, expressed gratitude, stating, “This event truly highlighted the effort behind our results and the support from Aviagen in providing exceptional stock.”
Insights Into Broiler Growth and Sustainability
Attendees were treated to valuable insights from Brendan Duggan, Aviagen’s European Director for R&D, who elaborated on how the breeding program is continuously evolving. His discussion on health, welfare, and sustainability underscored the comprehensive approach Aviagen adopts from pedigree to broiler production, highlighting the importance of responsible farming practices.
